Aqib Ahmad (i16-0019) 
 
 
Throughout my school and college education, I had not chosen Computer Science as a subject. I 
developed an interest for computers by experimenting as a hobby. Deep down, I always wished to 
pursue a career in this field. It was my interest and passion. I just wasn’t fully aware of it. When I 
got selected at FAST, I was optimistic that I was pursuing an interest. It was a bit troublesome 
starting off. Adjusting to the heavy coursework was not easy, but soon I was able to do well on 
assignments. My interest and passion for the field prevailed when I got an A in the Introduction to 
Computing (PF) course coordinated by Dr. Sibt-ul-Hussain.  
Getting a good grade in a course under his supervision coming off from a pre-engineering 
background reaffirmed my belief that if you do something with passion, you can never fail at it! I 
excelled in academics and maintained my position as a medal holder. I found out that the key to 
getting good grades at FAST was not some rocket science. It was just delivering on your coursework 
(assignments, projects). FAST produces quality professionals by giving them a rigorous academic 
schedule. If you’re doing your assignments yourself, you’re not going to get an F. One thing that will 
be always true for FAST is its potential to attract amiable and social students. The story of 
academics continued for 4 years. However, this wasn’t the only highlight. At FAST, I joined societies 
and organized social events. While being a part of extra-curriculars, I interacted with amazing 
seniors and juniors. No matter what kind of difficulties were there, people always found a way to 
organize some of the best university events in Pakistan.  
To conclude, I would like to give a message to my juniors (Batch 2017 and Batch 2018) and of 
course my own batch (Batch 2016). Juniors, you are going to make some of the best computing 
professionals in the years to come. Believe in your abilities, keep working hard and best of luck! 
To Batch 2016, what a journey it has been! All the interactions that we had, all those café sittings, 
the moments before FYP evaluations, the trips that we went on, the laughs that we shared. I 
cherish all these memories and I’m lucky to have gotten such batchmates. Batch 2016, wherever 
you go, whatever you do, you will always hold a special place with me. Best of luck for your future 
endeavors. May God be with you.
