Improving Situational Awareness using Augmented Reality This work is focused on improving situational awareness in highly stressful environments such as battlefields and is a RAC collaborative research project. The system is a deployment of a cloud based server capable of receiving information from the sensors that are geographically dispersed with an application that uses augmented reality (AR) to enable a soldier to visualize the targets in the surrounding environment. The server receives the information about the targets (real-world coordinates, heading and altitude) and stores it into a database whereas the client's side is capable of displaying the information making it relevant to the user's field of view (FoV). Some features of the system are: • A server side module to listen for data and write it to a database for side by side insertions and retrievals. • An iOS application capable of representing information in the user's environment using AR. • A mechanism for filtering information, allowing only a subset of information for a FoV. • A mechanism for interacting with the objects that augment the user's environment. • A UI design that is easy to learn and use for the target users. • An approach for handling true north orientations of targets and their viewing angles. Technology Used: Swift, Xcode, MongoDB, ARKit, Colasoft, Python Supervisor Name: Dr. Amna Basharat Group Members: Ahsan Bashir (i16 - 0071) Faraz Saeed (i16 - 0107) Azeem Lodhi (i16 - 0202)
