Amer Farooq (i16-0100) 
 
I had always been interested in computers from a young age and whenever I’d think about what I 
wanted to do in my life, I couldn’t imagine something that did not involve computers. This passion 
of mine led me to pursue computer science as a subject at school and eventually as my choice of 
degree. When thinking about the university that I wanted to attend, FAST was the obvious choice, 
being hailed as the best CS university in the country. After four years of spending my time here, I 
believe it merits this reputation. 
My journey at FAST has been truly an enlightening experience. It has helped me grow so much and 
has shaped the person who I am today. The greatest thing that my time here has given me is 
confidence in my own abilities. The excellent faculty and the rigorous coursework have been 
fundamental towards sharpening my skills and opening my mind towards all sorts of possibilities. 
It has allowed me to cultivate a vast skill set so that no matter what challenge comes before me, I can 
face it head on.  
Academics are not the only thing that FAST has contributed towards my grooming. I am an 
introverted person by nature and when I first came to this university, I was very nervous coming to 
terms with the new environment. However, being surrounded by like-minded people allowed me to 
quickly grow out of my shell. I have met excellent people in my time here and I have made some 
very good friends.  
As a student and an aspiring professional, I am thankful towards FAST for creating an environment 
that is conducive to learning and for maintaining a culture that encourages students to constantly 
push past their limits and excel. When I arrived here four years ago, I could never have imagined 
that I would be graduating with distinction, having secured four gold and two silver medals. I am 
proud of my accomplishment and have my parents and teachers to thank for it. Now, as I embark 
on a new journey, I am excited to apply all that I have learnt in my time here and look forward to 
the challenges that await me.
