Power System Blackout Prevention using Under Frequency Load Shedding
The project aims to design and implement a small-scale prototype that will highlight the significance of power blackouts caused due to frequency fluctuations (mainly frequency going down) by demonstrating non-conventional efficient load shedding mechanism using a centralized control system based on real time monitoring of system frequency. Through this project we aim to present a methodology to develop a reliable load shedding mechanism with the help of embedded tools to prevent blackouts while maintaining stability in power systems with high variability and uncertainty under any abnormal condition.
How it works – by introducing a centralized control system that can monitor the system parameters i.e., frequency in real time and implementing load control schemes depending upon the disturbances observed. Proposed methodology not just increases the robustness and efficiency of power protection techniques but also proves to be cost effective as the proposed system can be updated for future enhanced control algorithms without any need of replacing the whole unit.
