Smart Littering and Smoking Surveillance Hub (SLASH) 
his project aims to design and implement a Smart Littering and Smoking Surveillance Hub (SLASH) 
or automated detection of public smoking and littering in controlled urban areas. Manual supervision 
of such violations is inefficient, costly, and difficu It to scale, leading to weak enforcement and reduced 
ccountability. 
he proposed system uses YOLOv8 for real-time detection of smoking and littering behaviors, while 
lnsightFace is employed for accurate facial recognition to identify offenders. Detected incidents, 
long with timestamps, locations, and offender identities, are stored in a MongoDB database fo 
raceability and record keeping. 
he system is deployed on the NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit to enable efficient edge-based 
inference suitable for public environments. The project scope is limited to monitoring and 
ocumenting violations in controlled public spaces. SLASH integrates behavior detection, identity 
recognition, and data logging into a single framework to promote cleaner, healthier, and more 
ccountable public environments.
